Corporate Citizenship

Along with providing exceptional service for our customers, Border States employee-owners regularly volunteer to serve the communities in which they live.

Border States is dedicated to good corporate citizenship and encourages employee-owners to become active in their communities. Employee-owners are involved in community clean-up projects, the annual United Way campaign, and coaching and participating in community athletic teams. Border States employee-owners are also members and supporters of community groups such as the YMCA and YWCA, church groups, service groups, youth groups and educational institutions.

Border States also donates money to qualified charitable organizations each fiscal year. In addition to corporate donations, each branch office receives funds for local United Way campaigns and discretionary funds to use for local requests such as school activities or community service groups.

A corporate donations committee oversees the corporate donation budget and approves or denies all incoming requests. If a request exceeds the committee’s level of authority, a recommendation will be made to the Board of Directors.

The donation committee meets monthly to review all requests. The committee looks at the following criteria to determine if the company should support the organization:

  • Is the organization a qualified tax-exempt charitable organization?
  • What is the charitable nature of the organization?
  • Does the organization have connections to a BSE customer?
  • Is there a BSE employee involved with the organization?

Border States employee-owners take pride in the communities in which they live, as evidenced by the support they provide.
